Hi Friends and Family,
As you know, music is life for me. When I was 10 years old I finished my last season of flag football and told my mom I didn't want to play anymore. She said that ok, but you have to find something else to do. I told her that I kind of wanted to learn to play the drums. She is always so supportive of me and helped me find a used electric drum kit. I started taking lessons from Ian Niblett and the rest is history. I have been in band all through middle and high school. I take private lessons, and participate in all of Meridian High School's bands. Two of my friends and I also started a band called Rhythm Riot and we perform in downtown Boise.
This is my second summer participating in Drum Corps (DCI). Last summer I marched with the Boise Gems. This year I auditioned and made the drum set spot for The Battalion! Drum set is my dream spot and I am so excited. Last year my corps was local and we practiced daily for two weeks at a local high school and then went on a short Pacific Northwest tour. This year I move to Salt Lake on June 8th and won't return home until August 10th. During this time we will go on a 4-week tour and perform in 9 different states. Our final performances are at Colts Stadium in Indianapolis for the DCI World Championships. This is an amazing opportunity and I know I will grow as a musician and a person during this time.
Drum Corps is awesome, and is also expensive. My tuition for this summer is $4800. This doesn't include the monthly camps I have traveled to Utah for, my travel home from Indianapolis, and everything I need for life on the road. During the school year I work 20 hours a week at Idaho Pizza and have been saving all year for this summer, while also saving for college. I hope to participate in Drum Corps until I am 21. If you would like to help, your donation will go directly to my tuition. Thank you for helping make my dream a reality.
